How to grow your Instagram followers

We started our Instagram less than 4 months ago with our first post on October 17th, 2018.  Since then we have grown our following to nearly 2,000 followers.  We have been able to achieve this by following a few steps that I will share with you in this article.  I just want to state that this type of growth is not normal and shouldn't be expected.  Since we are a business and coming out with a new invention that will revolutionize the wakeboarding industry it has been a lot easier for us.  If you haven't heard what we are creating check out this blog where we talk about the Groove Vest, a vest with integrated speakers.

Now on to the good stuff, here are the three things you should do to grow your following and Instagram presence.

This is the first step to creating a base of followers.  The more content you post the more likely new people will find you and give you a follow.  Your feed should have a good mix of videos and photos, we have found that videos have 20%-50% more engagement.  We are still working on perfecting our stories strategy, but we try and share random things that we are excited about here.  Stories are just short 15 second videos, try to stick to one thing you want to share with your followers.

Hashtags are the secret to getting organic exposure through Instagram's algorithm.  Their algorithm favors post with high engagement, meaning the more likes and comments your posts receives, the more people will see that post.  Studies have shown that having at least one hashtag has resulted in about 13% more engagement.  The hashtags you use should be relevant to your post.  We learned that using the same hashtags over and over again have resulted in less organic growth.  Since then we have tried to switch up the hashtags from post to post and have seen an increase in engagement.

We reach out to all of our followers and tell them about what we have going on.  We try and find other riders that are into wakeboarding, give them a follow, comment on one of their videos or like a post of theirs.  We have found a lot of fun in this, becoming friends with our followers.  We believe that when you interact with others they are more likely to interact with your posts.  If anyone comments on your post, acknowledge that you have seen it by replying or giving it a like.

Just be you, I can't say this enough but in a world where everyone is trying to be someone else and fake their way to the top.  This faking strategy might work in the short term but it is not worth it in the long run.  Being authentic always wins, eventually people will catch on if you are being fake.  There are over 1 billion Instagram users around the world and about 100 million in the United States there are tons of people out there that will connect with your personality.  Let your personality show through you posts, you can do this by sharing goals, struggles and anything that you are excited about that is going on in your life.
